How to Write a Title Tag That Will Improve Your Search Engine Ranking and Your Click Through Rate

The title tag on your website is the first thing both the search engines and it’s users see. A title tag is a peice of HTML code that is usually found at the top of your page, right after the head tage. This is what it should look like.

The title tag is what the search engines use to figure out what your page is about. In the search results, its the linked headline in your listing – which will usually be a big factor as to whether or not someone decides to click it and visit your site. Once they are on your site, the title text will appear again at the top of the users browser window. As you can see, this is prime real estate, so it’s important that you use it properly. Here are two things to think about when writing your title tag.
Steps
1.
Make sure it fits on one line. This means it needs to be 70 characters or less. If you go over, it will get cut off and will end up making your page look very unprofessional. Not only that, but search engines have also been known to penalize sites with extra long title tags. Same goes for stuffing the title tage with relevant keywords…it’s definitely not the route you want to go if you are looking to improve your SEO efforts.
2.
Pick the right keywords. The biggest thing to focus on here is using words and phrases your potential customers are looking for. When they come across your result in the search engines, they have to know by reading the title, that this is going to answer their questions/satisfy their needs. If it does, then they are likely to click through.

Tips
At the same time, when the search engines crawl your title tage they want to see that it’s relevant to the content that is on your page. That’s why your title should contain the same keywords that your are optimizing your page for. Having the same keywords in your title tag that you do on your page will increase the weight the search engines give to your keywords.
