How to Add Google AdSense To Your Blog

Adsense is Google’s advertising network that places those sponsored ads you see on many websites. Google automatically checks the web page it places the ads on and displays advertisements that are relevant to the page. This produces highly targeted advertisements for the page, allowing, hopefully, higher returns for the advertiser, the advertising network (Google) and the publisher (you).

1. Apply to Google. Once your site is up, running, and functional, apply to Google AdSense. Once you apply, Google will then send you an email to verify your email address. Follow the instructions in that email and complete the application process. It may take a few days for Google to get back to you, so just continue to run your site normally until you hear back.

2. Configure your Ads: Once your account is approved, you can then login and grab the HTML code that you will be pasting into your website. he code can be found in the “AdSense Setup” tab. You’ll be able to customize how the ads look, choose between text and image ads or a combination of both. Once you are done configuring, you’ll be given the html code to paste into your site.
3. Paste the Google AdSense Code onto Your Blog or Web Page: Make sure that when you paste the code into your site you do it as html. If its for a blog, you may want to paste the code into your blogs template instead of doing it for each individual post. If you are using Blogger, there is a plugin you can use for this as well.
4. Entering Your PIN into the Google Site. When you reach a certain amount in earnings (usually around $10) for the first time, Google will send you a card in the mail that has a series of chearacters printed on it. Once you receive this, login to your account and enter the characters and pin. You will need to do this before they will send you any payments. It usually takes some time before this card is sent out (usually a few weeks after you hit the earnings threshold) so just keep an eye out for it. You will only have to do this once for the life of the account.

Tips

Google Adsense is a great place to start when your site is new and you are building traffic. However one thing to note, especially if your site is a blog, it to be careful not to overdo it and put AdSense everywhere possible. A lot of the time this can turn off your audience immensely and will do more harm then good when trying to increase your readership/audience.
