How to Get Started With Facebook Advertising


Facebook Ads has been getting a lot of attention lately, and because of that, more and more affiliates have been drawn to the platform. Before you get started though, it’s important to understand what works and what doesn’t. Here are some tips to help you get started the right way.


1.
Sign up to affiliate networks: Look for an affiliate network that offers the highest payouts and the best offers that will convert the best for the demographic you are looking to target. Some of the best networks out there that I’ve found for Facebook offers are: Commission Junction, Clickbooth, Link Share, MaxBounty

Select an Offer: Make sure you select the right product that doesn’t violate Facebook ad guidelines and read all the guidelines and terms before you post your ad on Facebook. The verticals that have continued to see the most success on Facebook are:
Insurance / Debt – Insurance offers are very profitable as long as you target correctly. Most of these offers will pay between $2-4 which means there is BIG money in it for you if you can keep your CPC low.
Education Lead Gen – What’s great about these offers are that they have a high payout (usually around $20) for someone to enter just enter a little bit of info. Since lead gens don’t require credit card or a sale, it almost always means a high conversion rate.
Gaming – Gaming offers dominate on Facebook, especially when targeting to International countries. Most advertisers will pay $1-2 for a registration with no cap. These offers can definitely make you a TON of money if you target them correctly.
Dating – These offers are very competitive and usually won’t give you a lot of short term profit, but there is money to be made if you have the time to optimize and are focused more on the long term. Talk to your Affiliate Manager to find out which ones work best for Facebook.

Landing Page: Landing pages aren’t always required, however they can dramatically increase your conversions depending on the offer. Usually with EDU and Dating offers you will want to build an LP. If you decide to, make sure your ad copy and image matches your Landing Page to get the best results. Have a clear call to action as well as copy that presents the user with a sense of urgency (e.g “Limited Time Only”, or Offer Expires Today).

Paypal or Credit card Setup: If you are going to use Paypal to fund your ad campaigns, make sure you add enough balance so that you can run Facebook ad campaign for at least a month. This is optional step if you’re going to pay using credit card.

Images: Images are one of the most important parts of an Ad on Facebook. It’s what draws the user in first which is why you need pictures that will really grab their attention. Some good tips that have worked well in the past are:
Putting a color border around your image
Making the image look a little blurry
Make the image look like it is tilted.
Having an image extend past the border
Image space allotted to you is 110×80 so make sure you use the above tips to create an effective ad in this size. Constantly test and optimize for the higher CTR and overall conversions.
6.
Ad Copy:Your headline needs to be 25 letters or less and the content of ad can be up to 135 characters. When writing ad copy for Facebook, first try and research what other affiliates are using to get an idea. You can do this by creating different accounts (using different demographics) to see what other affiliates are promoting and how they are writing their copy. Another great tip I learned is to look at magazines or newspaper ads that relate to the offer you want to promote? What are they saying that is working for them? Once you create some ad copy, continue to test and optimize everything to achieve maximum results.
